How to Convert Audio Files Online
Converting audio files between different formats is one of the most common tasks for musicians, podcasters, and everyday users alike. Whether you need to compress a large WAV file into a smaller MP3 for sharing, convert an OGG file from a game into a standard format, or create a lossless FLAC copy of your music library, SoundCuibu's free online audio converter handles it all without requiring any software download or installation.
Supported Audio Formats
Our universal converter supports the most widely used audio formats:
- MP3 — The universal standard for music and podcasts. Excellent compression with good quality, supported by every device and platform.
- WAV — Uncompressed audio offering lossless quality. Ideal for professional audio work, recording, and editing. Large file sizes.
- FLAC — Free Lossless Audio Codec. Compresses audio without any quality loss, roughly half the size of WAV. Perfect for archiving music.
- OGG (Vorbis) — Open-source compressed format. Often used in games, apps, and streaming. Great quality at low bitrates.
- AAC — Advanced Audio Coding. The successor to MP3 with better quality at the same file size. Default format for Apple devices and YouTube.
- M4A — AAC audio wrapped in an MPEG-4 container. Widely used on iPhones, iPads, and iTunes.
- OPUS — Modern, highly efficient codec ideal for voice and music streaming. Used by Discord, WhatsApp, and WebRTC applications.
- WMA — Windows Media Audio, Microsoft's proprietary format. Commonly found on older Windows systems and Zune devices.
Choosing the Right Output Format
The best output format depends on your use case. For sharing music online or loading songs onto a phone, MP3 at 192 kbps or 320 kbps is the safe choice — universally compatible and reasonably small. For archiving your music collection without quality loss, choose FLAC. For Apple ecosystem users, AAC/M4A offers better quality than MP3 at the same file size. For voice recordings or podcasts where file size matters most, OPUS delivers excellent clarity at very low bitrates.
Is Quality Lost During Conversion?
Converting between two lossy formats (e.g., MP3 to AAC) always involves some generation loss because the audio is decoded and re-encoded. To minimise quality loss, always convert from the highest-quality source available. Converting lossless formats (WAV, FLAC) to a lossy output (MP3, AAC) loses some data, but the result sounds great at high bitrates. Converting from lossy to lossless (MP3 to WAV) does not recover lost quality — the file will be larger but not better sounding.
